Raleigh City Museum to Host Local Artist Talk
The Raleigh City Museum will host a slide presentation and lecture by Raleigh visual artist
Autumn Cobeland on Saturday, January 26, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the Museum's classroom facility at
220 Fayetteville Street Mall. The general public is invited to attend this free event.
Ms. Cobeland is the Museum's "artist-in-residence" and currently has several oil
paintings and prints on display in the Museum's store. Cobeland, a Raleigh native, has
studied art in Europe and holds a BFA from Earlham College. Her featured works depict local
Raleigh scenes as well as scenes of North Carolina, and many of her images have been
reproduced as prints and notecards that are available for purchase in the Museum's store.
Her talk will focus on her artwork, her style and her personal evolvement as a visual artist.
She will also touch upon what inspires her to pursue a career as a visual artist.
The Raleigh City Museum, a private non-profit organization, grew out of the dream of local
history advocates who saw a need to preserve artifacts from Raleigh's past. Opening June
1993 in the Borden Building at Fred Fletcher Park, the Museum expanded in 1998 and moved to
its current location in the Historic 1874 Briggs Building on Fayetteville Street Mall. It
is open to the general public Tuesday - Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday,
1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the Museum is free.
