Raleigh City Museum Celebrates 9th Anniversary
At June 15 "RCM Founders Day" Event

The Raleigh City Museum is celebrating the ninth anniversary of its founding with "RCM Founders Day," Saturday, June 15 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Museum's 220 Fayetteville Street Mall location in downtown Raleigh.

The theme for RCM Founders Day is the re-creation of a nostalgic Saturday afternoon in the 19th century. Timeless children's games, such as marbles and hopscotch, will be featured along with other activities such as flag-making and "make your own postcard." Live music will be offered by members of the Raleigh Concert Band.

The day also serves as the official kick-off for the Raleigh City Museum's year-long 10th anniversary celebration that culminates next June 2003. A new 10th anniversary logo will be unveiled during the festivities, and birthday cake and lemonade will be served to all in attendance. While some activities will take place inside the museum's main gallery, others will be featured outside on Fayetteville Street Mall. All activities are free to the public, and no reservations are required.

The Raleigh City Museum, a private non-profit organization, grew out of the dream of local history advocates who saw a need to preserve artifacts from Raleigh's past. Opening June 1993 in the Borden Building at Fred Fletcher Park, the Museum expanded in 1998 and moved to its current location in the Historic 1874 Briggs Building on Fayetteville Street Mall. It is open to the general public Tuesday - Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the Museum is free.
