"Raleigh History Festival" at Historic Oak View County Park
RALEIGH, N.C. (April 11, 2003) -
Would you like to learn how to gin cotton? Or, see how rope is tied together?
Or, make your own flag while listening to live music? Would you like to soak
up lots of local history from Raleigh sites sharing their collective heritage?
Then be sure to sample these activities and more when Historic Oak View County
Park hosts the "Raleigh History Festival" sponsored by the Raleigh Heritage
Trail. This day of exhibits, demonstrations, live music and more takes place
on SATURDAY, APRIL 26 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Historic Oak View County Park is
located at 4028 Carya Drive just off the Poole Road exit of I-440 in Raleigh.
Admission to the event is free. The event is open to the general public and
all are invited to attend. Music will be provided by the Fuquay-Varina Dixieland
Band and the North Carolina State Pipe & Drums. Southern-style food and
refreshment concessions will be available for sale.
The Raleigh Heritage Trail is a consortium of local cultural and historic sites
whose common goals are to promote the understanding of the history of Greater
Raleigh and to better serve residents and visitors through shared educational
programming. Member sites include the African American Cultural Complex, Haywood
Hall, Historic Oak View County Park, Historic Yates Mill County Park, the Joel
Lane House Museum, Mordecai Historic Park, the North Carolina State Capitol, the
Olivia Raney Local History Library and the Raleigh City Museum.
