Discover Techniques to Preserve Family Heirlooms
at the Raleigh City Museum
"Pieces of the Past" Fall Lecture Series continues with a home preservation workshop

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 22, 2003) - The Raleigh City Museum will continue its Pieces of the Past Fall 2003 Lecture Series with a workshop presentation by Dusty Wescott, curator for the Raleigh City Museum, and David Goist, former Chief Conservator for the North Carolina Museum of Art. The workshop, entitled "Conserving Your Personal Treasures," will be held Saturday, October 18, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the museum's lower level classroom. The program is free and open to the general public.

During the workshop Mr. Wescott and Mr. Goist will share their cumulative knowledge about how best to protect and care for family heirlooms. Covering a wide range of household objects such as silverware, furniture, artwork, old photographs and family documents, the workshop will provide basic "how-to" remedies to domestic conservation problems. A reference list will also be provided to enable attendees to pursue further research on this subject after the workshop.

The Pieces of the Past Fall 2003 Lecture Series will conclude on November 8, 2003 at 2 p.m. with a discussion and book-signing by Dr. Melton McLaurin and Paul Blankinship, author and photographic collaborator on the new history book The North Carolina State Fair: The First 150 Years, 1853-2003. Copies of the book will be available to purchase for $25 (plus tax) that day; the discussion itself is free to the general public. For more information, please contact Ken Peters, Coordinator of Education & Outreach, at 832-3775 ext. 11.
