Raleigh City Museum to Host a Special Holiday Exhibit within its A.J. Fletcher Foundation Gallery
Photo display remembers holidays from the past

RALEIGH, N.C. (November 21, 2003) - Remember those happy holiday seasons of yore? Then come celebrate this unique time of year at the Raleigh City Museum! For the third consecutive year, the Museum will host a special photographic exhibit, "Celebrating a Capital Season," in its A.J. Fletcher Foundation Gallery within the Historic Briggs Building, 220 Fayettteville Street Mall in Downtown Raleigh. This exhibit highlights Raleigh's civic celebrations at holiday time, and includes historic photographs of the annual Christmas Parade, the Governor's Tree-Lighting Ceremony at the State Capitol, and other local traditions. The exhibit will run from November 28, 2003 until January 3, 2004. Museum hours are Tuesdays-Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. (Please note: the Museum will be closed December 24, 25, 26, 27 and January 1 to commemorate the holidays.)

The Raleigh City Museum, a private non-profit organization that is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2003, grew out of the dream of local history advocates who saw a need to preserve artifacts from Raleigh's past. Opening June 1993 in the Borden Building at Fred Fletcher Park, the Museum expanded in 1998 and moved to its current location in the Historic 1874 Briggs Building on Fayetteville Street Mall.

For more information on this event, please contact Ken Peters, Coordinator of Education & Outreach, at 832-3775 ext. 11.
