Rediscover the Story of Pullen Park
at the Raleigh City Museum’s Next
Pieces of the Past Fall Program Series Event
RALEIGH, N.C. (October 22, 2004) - The Raleigh City Museum continues its Pieces of
the Past Fall Program Series with a presentation by Susan Little, W. Carson Dean
and Robb Harrison on the history of Pullen Park in Raleigh. The talk, entitled
"Rediscovering Pullen Park," will be held Saturday, November 13, 2004 at
2:00 p.m. in the museum’s classroom. The program is free and open to the
general public.
Created in 1887 from land donated by Richard Stanhope Pullen, Raleigh’s Pullen
Park has remained a beloved landmark for local citizens for more than 110 years.
Its fascinating history mirrors that of Raleigh itself, from its early days as a
respite from a busy downtown, to the installation of its Dentzel carousel in 1920
and its present-day role as a cultural and athletic center within the city’s parks
and recreation department. This program will explore Pullen Park's fascinating
past, but will also enlighten guests on what plans are in store for the future of
this beloved Raleigh landmark.
