New Brochure Offers Visitors a
Walking Guide to Fayetteville Street
RALEIGH, N.C. (August 14, 2006) - The Raleigh City Museum and the City
of Raleigh Arts Commission have partnered to produce a new brochure on
the history and architecture of Raleigh’s Fayetteville Street. The
brochure, “A Walking Guide to Raleigh’s Fayetteville Street – Its
History, Its Architecture,” offers a glimpse into Fayetteville
Street’s storied past as well as its present architectural treasures.
It is currently available free of charge at the Raleigh City Museum
and will be distributed to other selected downtown venues and historic
sites this month.
The brochure is intended to provide visitors to Downtown Raleigh with
a greater appreciation for the newly re-opened street. It includes a
review of the major historical events and former sites that once
graced Fayetteville Street, such as the Yarborough House hotel and the
Ambassador Theater, and an architectural analysis of many of the major
structures that stand along the street today. For an expert
interpretation of these sites, the organizations secured the services
of Kristen Schaffer, PhD, a professor of architectural history at NC
State University’s School of Design.
For further information on the brochure, please contact the Raleigh
City Museum at 919/832-3775.
