CALL FOR ENTRIES
Portraits of Raleigh: Images of a City and Her People

The Raleigh City Museum announces a call for entries for a juried photography exhibition entitled Portraits of Raleigh: Images of a City and Her People opening March 6, 2009. The competition is open to all photographers using any type of photographic process, color or black & white, traditional or computer generated/manipulated images. There are no restrictions on the date images were created (you could have taken them 30 years ago), the only restriction being that they are somehow associated with Raleigh. Entry is $5 an image, and each photographer may submit as many photographs as they would like. Prizes will be awarded.
Submissions:
The deadline for entries is now January 9, 2009 (the previous date of January 5 has been extended due to the holidays). Submissions will be accepted by emailing submissions@raleighcitymuseum.org, or you may drop off a CD at the Raleigh City Museum to the attention of Ladye Jane Vickers.
The digital submission images need to be 300 dpi jpg files no larger than 7 inches in its longest dimension. Each jpg file must be titled with your last name, first initial, "underscore" and numbered. For example, Tom Jones entering one photo would be JonesT_1.jpg, second photo would be JonesT_2.jpg. The CD itself must be labeled with the photographer's name and contact information (phone, email, and address). Materials will not be returned.
Those accepted for the exhibition will be notified by email on January 23, 2009. Winners will also be posted on www.raleighcitymuseum.org
Selected images will be on display beginning with a public First Friday opening reception on Friday, March 6, 2009, and will run through Saturday April 4, 2009.
Prizes will be awarded for Best in Show as well as 2nd and 3rd places. There will also be a “Sir Walter Award” given to the photograph selected as favorite by the reception attendees.
The work accepted into the exhibition must arrive at the Museum ready to hang - professionally framed or mounted. If your piece is larger than 20" x 24" let us know in advance. Although your work will be handled with extreme care, we will not be responsible for the damage of any work.
We ask that all work selected for exhibition be offered for sale at a price determined by the artist. Artists will receive seventy five percent of the sale price if sold.
For payment of entry fee, checks may be made payable to Raleigh City Museum, or you may call in/stop by with your credit card information.
If you have any further questions, please contact Ladye Jane Vickers at 919-832-3775, ex.14.
By submitting an image to the Portraits of Raleigh photography competition, you are giving permission to the Raleigh City Museum to use the image in any promotional materials (for example, but not limited to: flyers, posters, brochures, and on the website) we create in conjunction with the Portraits of Raleigh: Images of a City and Her People exhibition.
