Off-site Programs
If you can’t make it to the museum why not let a Raleigh City Museum employee or volunteer come to you. We offer a number of off-site programs on a variety of local history topics. The best part is, like all of our services, RCM off-site programs are absolutely free.
Scheduling conflicts can happen so you are encouraged to schedule an offsite program as far in advance as possible. Contact Jenny Litzelman by calling 919.832.3775 in order to schedule your program.
Our speakers are qualified to speak about all manner of historical topics and are comfortable adapting their programs to focus on whatever you’d like. Please call to hear about additional courses, but here are some of the programs available:
- Raleigh 101: A Fresh Introduction to a 200+ Year-Old City
New to Raleigh? Let the Raleigh City Museum give you an orientation to your new home. This class includes basic information about the geography, history, government, and fun stuff going on in and around the city of Raleigh. This program is suitable for children and adults.
- Famous Raleigh Biographies: Five Raleigh Citizen’s You Should Know About
Ever wonder who the “fathers and mothers” of the city of Raleigh were? In this presentation, students will learn about five citizens who had a dramatic impact on the city. All five of these figures have been inducted into the Raleigh Centennial Hall of Fame and have unique and interesting stories associated with them. This program is suitable for children or adults.
- Raleigh Skyscrapers: Past, Present, and Future
Who doesn’t love tall buildings? Over the years Raleigh has seen its fair share of skyscrapers, but now that the city is one of the fastest growing places in America there are even more going up. This program gives a brief introduction to skyscrapers built in this town over the last several years, and ends with a preview of some of the projects that are currently in the works. This program is suitable for children and adults.
- The Raleigh City Flag: A Lesson in Flag Symbolism
Over 450 American cities have flags. Raleigh, NC is one of them. This program focuses briefly on the history of the Raleigh City Flag and then moves into a discussion of how flags make use of symbolism in different ways. Participants will learn about the symbols used in the US flag, the NC flag, and Raleigh’s flag.
